EYE#14 | Get Around To It!

Sorry for the delay – watch for our next challenge on Tuesday next week! – Sue

Hi, it’s Holly here! I’m excited to share the next EYE challenge with you. I hope you’ll play along.

I have quite a selection of doilies in my scrapbook stash, do you? Doilies are a fantastic addition to a scrapbook page. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours and add a quick and easy round element to your page. With doilies, there’s no need to drag out that circle cutter when you want to add a round accent – it’s a round element that’s already ready to go!

>When you think of doilies, does your mind immediately turn to the colour white?  Sure, there are white doilies available pretty much anywhere from the dollar store to craft shop or even high-end baking establishments. But don’t stop there.  Doilies come in a rainbow of colours ranging from pastels to brights, and even black! So complementing your page with the right size, colour and degree of lacy detail is easy with doilies.

Your challenge this week is to use doilies on your layout. I’ve created a few examples to show you some fun and interesting ways to add doilies to your pages.

Here’s a layout with multiple doilies on the same scrapbook page. This layout features two sizes of black doilies along with smaller, pastel doilies that were cut with a Big Shot and a Sizzix die from Stampin’ Up.

Supplies used:  Cosmo Cricket, Chatterbox and My Mind’s eye patterned papers; Wilton doilies; Stampin’ Up! ribbon; American Crafts Thickers; Studio Calico flair pins; Maya Road trinket pin; Prima Marketing clothespin.

The black doilies have a bit of an iridescent sheen to them, and trimming them so that they overlap the edge of the page adds interest.

Silver and gold embellishments have been popular in the past few years, and this is definitely reflected in my scrapbook stash. How about yours? I like how a gold doily adds a vibrant splash to a page.

Supplies used:  7Gypsies and My Mind’s eye patterned papers; Basic Grey paper garland; American Crafts and Studio Calico alpha stickers; Studio Calico doily; My Mind’s Eye and Fancy Pants wood stars; Basic Grey metal tag.

A large, shiny embellishment might have been too overpowering for a page like this one, so I selected a smaller gold doily from Studio Calico. I slid it in behind the photo to add just the right amount of gold without getting too glitzy.

So, go ahead – accept the challenge! Dig into your stash and find one doily or many, white or colourful, big or small! I can’t wait to see what you create!

  1. Holly, I love both of these layouts! The three banners are such a great way to include 3 photos on a layout. Great repetition of the doilies! And the pogo stick layout is such fun! Who gets the photo credit? Nice to see you in a photo for a change. :)

I'd love to hear what you think about this!
