EYE#6 | Totally BRADical!

Welcome to our sixth challenge to help your whittle down your stash!  I hope you’ve had a chance to check out our previous challenges so far!

This week, the section of our supplies that we are targeting is part of everyone’s embellishment stash.  They were all the rage 7 or 8 years ago (I know that I, for one, collected them in every colour!) and while they aren’t widely used much anymore, there are still a handy embellishment with a wide variety of uses.

Have you guessed what it is?  BRADS!

This week’s challengeUse at least 20 brads on your project or layout.

This week found me packing and preparing for our trip to pick up my son from Blackdown summer training camp so I barely set foot in my studio (except to finally finish unpacking it all after our flood!) so I am sharing DT member Holly’s fantastic layout as inspiration this week:

Supplies:  We R Memory Keepers patterned papers; Bo Bunny and American Crafts brads; American Crafts Thickers.

I love how she’s incorporated the brads into her patterned background – and used up lots of letter stickers too, with her repeated “spin” titles!  Here are some close ups:

Here’s what Holly had to say about her technique:

One thing I did to make using this many brads easier was cut a small slit with an X-acto knife for the insertion of each brad.  I added brads to the accents that were elevated with a foam dot by adhering the foam dot to the paper accent first, then carefully cutting through both the paper accent and the foam dot at the same time. I put the brad through those, then used the exacto knife to cut a slit in the 12 x 12 paper.  Finally, I slipped the brad, already attached to the accent paper and foam dot through the 12 x 12 paper and pressed down to ensure the foam dot was adhered in place, then bent back the brad prongs.

So, how many brads will you be able to use on your page?  Please share a link to your project below – we’d love to see what you create!

  1. This is such a great use of brads, Holly!! Love this layout … it evokes such fun and craziness … great way to highlight the photo. How long did it take you to attach all those brads?

  2. Great layout! I love how the circle cut paper continues into the background with the fussy cut circles! And what a great way to use up a ton of brads (and yes, I do have a ton, in almost every color of the rainbow!) Thanks for the inspiration and the challenge!
